‘This place is special, as Anthony Bourdain would say! Perched on the edge of the jungle sits the 10-room Boutique Hotel UNY with sunset views from roof, of Ahangama best (open secret) surfspot, Marshmallow. The place is brand new, designed by a Scandinavian-Srilankan couple, and it shows.’

‘The style of this place was off the charts! We especially loved the layers to the rooms with the pivoting teak doors to the inner balconies — beautiful sunrises and a direct view to the surf break out front if you open them up. The hotel is "present" in the comings and goings of daily life in Ahangama…tuktuks, school kids, and crazy busses passing crazy trucks give you a sort of river of locality between the endless Indian Ocean and the chill inside the hotel grounds. The pool was a welcome little cool down spot and we also really liked breakfast at the restaurant. They had an entire vegan menu which was fantastic with a great blend of local Sri Lankan cuisine and global dishes. The smoothies were amazing in the morning as well as the coffee and tea drinks.’

‘Absolutely beautiful setting and everything brand new. Perfect location. Really good aircon and comfy beds. Lovely hot water. Nice touch of breakfast on our balcony in the morning. Would definitely recommend a visit here’
